Norwood Park Wedding Photography

Top tips, Photo Spots & Golden Hour

I’m Lauren, a Nottingham wedding photographer, and Norwood Park is one of those venues that gives you so much to work with. From the elegant interiors and grand staircase to the gardens and surrounding grounds, there are plenty of beautiful spaces without your wedding photos ever needing to feel overly staged.

I photograph weddings in a relaxed, documentary-focused way, so my approach is really about making the most of what is already happening rather than taking you away from your guests for hours.

About Norwood Park

Norwood Park sits just outside Southwell, surrounded by 175 acres of beautiful parkland and countryside. This elegant country house combines historic character with a relaxed, timeless feel, giving couples plenty of beautiful backdrops for their wedding photographs. From the impressive white gates and sweeping drive to the gardens, orchard and surrounding parkland, there’s so much variety to make the most of throughout the day.

The experience at Norwood Park is just as much about the setting as it is the atmosphere. The combination of beautiful grounds, characterful spaces and the surrounding countryside creates a wedding day that feels special without being overly formal. It’s a venue that works beautifully for relaxed celebrations, with plenty of space to enjoy time with your guests while still having some gorgeous opportunities for photographs along the way.

Beautiful portraits without disappearing from your wedding

If you're worried that having beautiful couple photographs means spending ages away from everyone else, it really doesn't.

I keep portrait sessions relaxed and purposeful. I’ll guide you when you need it, give you a few natural prompts and look for the best light, rather than putting you through a long list of poses.

Norwood has so many options, from the staircase and elegant interiors to the gardens and outdoor spaces. We can make the most of the venue while still keeping the whole thing feeling like you.

Making the most of the light at Norwood Park

Light is the one thing you can’t fake, and the difference between a good photographer at Norwood and a great one is knowing how the sun moves around the grounds through the day. I know where to put your family group shots in bright midday sun and where to move them when it’s overcast, so the light flatters everyone rather than leaving half the group squinting or in shadow.

Here’s something most couples don’t realise. The tall trees along the front of Norwood mean the sun dips behind them earlier than the official golden hour, so if you wait for the time the app tells you, you’ve already missed it. What I do instead is take you out in the buggy. A short drive to the lake gets us away from those trees, lets the sun sit lower in the sky and gives us that proper golden, sun-kissed light you booked a photographer for. It’s a five-minute trip and it’s almost always the best ten minutes of portraits all day.

FAQ

01/03

What is the best time of year to get married at Norwood Park?

Spring and summer are ideal for Norwood Park, with colourful gardens, beautiful outdoor portraits and gorgeous golden-hour light. Early autumn brings warm tones, while winter suits the elegant interiors perfectly. Whatever the season, the setting always delivers something memorable.

What are the best photo spots around Prestwold Hall?

The grand staircase inside the house is a must, while outside I love the white gates, formal gardens, orchard and the open parkland surrounding the venue. The cobbled path and clock tower also work beautifully for evening and sparkler photographs, giving you a little more atmosphere once the sun has gone down.

What happens if it rains on the wedding day?

It’s the UK, so we can never quite guarantee what the weather will do! But rain certainly doesn’t mean we have to compromise on your photos at Norwood Park.

There are plenty of beautiful indoor spaces to make the most of if the weather takes a turn, from the grand staircase and characterful interiors of the house to the Drawing Room and Long Gallery, which are both full of natural light and architectural detail. The Clock Tower is another brilliant option, especially later in the day when the chandeliers create a warm, atmospheric backdrop.

And if there’s a break in the rain, I’m always happy to make the most of it, even if that means a quick dash outside with umbrellas. Sometimes those slightly unexpected moments end up being some of my favourite photographs.

Can we have photographs around the gardens without being away from our guests for ages?

Absolutely! I keep couple portraits relaxed and efficient, so you’re never away from your guests for ages. We’ll make the most of the gardens while naturally moving around, capturing a beautiful portraits with the many different backdrops at Norwood Park before getting you back to the celebrations.

We're really awkward in front of the camera. Can you help?

Absolutely! Most couples tell me this, and honestly, you don’t need to know what to do. I’ll give you gentle prompts and little things to focus on so it feels natural rather than posed. I’m there to capture the laughs, the in-between moments and the way you naturally are together, not force you into awkward poses.

Abi & Tom

We could not have asked for a better wedding photographer than Lauren. What really stood out was how keen Lauren was to capture the moments, people, and details that mattered most to us. She tailored the entire experience around our personalities and priorities, ensuring that the photographs reflected who we are rather than feeling staged or generic. Neither of us is particularly comfortable in front of a camera, but Lauren’s relaxed, friendly approach made the whole experience enjoyable and natural.
