Shottle Hall Wedding Photography

Ceremony Locations, Photo Spots & Golden Hour

I’m Lauren, a Nottingham wedding photographer, and Shottle Hall is the kind of venue that makes photographing a wedding feel effortless. Set in the Derbyshire countryside, this beautiful country house has a lovely mix of classic character, elegant interiors and beautiful grounds, giving you plenty of variety for your photographs without ever feeling like you need to spend your whole day posing for the camera.

"You understood what we envisaged and wanted and you've produced far better than we imagined."

Beautiful portraits without disappearing from your wedding

I photograph weddings in a relaxed, documentary-focused way. There’s no need to disappear for hours for photographs I’ll give you a little direction when it helps, create space for some beautiful editorial-style portraits, and then get back to documenting everything else as it unfolds around you.

Making the most of the light at tHE Shottle Hall

Light is one thing you can’t fake, and the difference between good wedding photography at Shottle Hall and great wedding photography is knowing how to work with the light throughout the day. I’ll keep an eye on where the sun is falling around the grounds, making sure your photos are taken in the best light rather than simply sticking to a set timeline.

One of my favourite things about Shottle Hall is the golden hour light. The area outside the front of the venue, as well as the space behind the dining area, catches the most amazing warm light over the rolling hills. If you’re getting married here, I’d definitely recommend making time for a few golden hour portraits. It’s such a beautiful part of the venue, and well worth stepping away for a few minutes to make the most of it.

FAQ

01/03

What is the best time of year to get married at The Old Vicarage?

Spring and summer are gorgeous at Shottle Hall, with lush gardens, plenty of natural light and longer evenings. Early autumn brings warmer tones and golden-hour photographs, while winter weddings make the most of the venue’s beautiful interiors and more intimate atmosphere.

Whatever the season, Shottle Hall gives you plenty to work with, and I’ll make the most of the setting without turning your wedding day into a photoshoot.

What are the best photo spots around Shottle Hall ?

Shottle Hall has lots of lovely spaces for photographs, from its characterful interiors to the gardens and outdoor areas. I’ll use the setting naturally throughout the day, rather than taking you away for a long list of posed photos.

The gardens are perfect for relaxed couple portraits, while the interior and bar area add more editorial feel to your images.

I’ll keep an eye out for the best light and little pockets of the venue as the day unfolds, so your photographs feel varied, natural and unmistakably yours.

What happens if it rains on the wedding day?

It’s the UK, so we can never quite guarantee what the weather will do! But rain definitely doesn’t mean compromising on your photographs.

The dining space is a brilliant option for photos when the weather isn’t on our side, with beautiful natural light and plenty of character. If you’re after something a little more editorial, the bar gives us a completely different look, especially for evening portraits and flash photography.

And if you’re happy to embrace the weather, we can always head outside with umbrellas for something a little different.

I’ll always adapt to whatever the day throws at us, so you can enjoy your wedding without worrying about the forecast.

Can we have photographs around the gardens without being away from our guests for ages?

Absolutely! I keep couple portraits relaxed and efficient, so you’re never away from your guests for ages. We’ll make the most of the gardens while naturally moving around, capturing a beautiful portraits with the many different backdrops at Shottle Hall before getting you back to the celebrations.

We're really awkward in front of the camera. Can you help?

Absolutely! Most couples tell me this, and honestly, you don’t need to know what to do. I’ll give you gentle prompts and little things to focus on so it feels natural rather than posed. I’m there to capture the laughs, the in-between moments and the way you naturally are together, not force you into awkward poses.

Lauren was absolutely amazing. She managed to capture every moment of everyone so perfectly and produced every image we could have wished for whilst keeping everything super calm and chilled like we’d hoped. She listened to everything we said about the style, group pictures and candid moments. The communication leading up to the day and afterwards was brilliant. We cannot recommend Lauren enough!
