The Old Vicarage Wedding Photography
Church Ceremonies, Photo Spots & Golden Hour
I’m Lauren, a Nottingham wedding photographer, and The Old Vicarage in Southwell is the kind of venue that makes photographing a wedding feel effortless. This beautifully restored Victorian home combines original character with contemporary design.

Beautiful portraits without disappearing from your wedding
I photograph weddings in a relaxed, documentary-focused way. There’s no need to disappear for hours for photographs I’ll give you a little direction when it helps, create space for some beautiful editorial-style portraits, and then get back to documenting everything else as it unfolds around you.
Making the most of the light at tHE oLD vICARAGE
Light is the one thing you can’t fake, and the difference between a good photographer at The Old Vicarage and a great one is knowing how the sun moves around the grounds through the day. I know where to put your family group shots in bright midday sun and where to move them when it’s overcast, so the light flatters everyone rather than leaving half the group squinting or in shadow.
Here’s something most couples don’t realise. The tall trees at The Old Vicarage mean the sun dips behind them earlier than the official golden hour, so if you wait for the time the app tells you, you’ve already missed it. Trust me to watch the skies and tell you exactly when is best to get those epic shots.
FAQ
01/03
What is the best time of year to get married at The Old Vicarage?
Spring and summer are gorgeous at The Old Vicarage, with lush gardens, plenty of natural light and longer evenings. Early autumn brings warmer tones and golden-hour photographs, while winter weddings make the most of the venue’s beautiful interiors and more intimate atmosphere.
Whatever the season, The Old Vicarage gives you plenty to work with, and I’ll make the most of the setting without turning your wedding day into a photoshoot.
What are the best photo spots around The Old Vicarage?
The Old Vicarage has lots of lovely spaces for photographs, from its characterful interiors to the gardens and outdoor areas. I’ll use the setting naturally throughout the day, rather than taking you away for a long list of posed photos.
The gardens are perfect for relaxed couple portraits, while the interior and bar area add more editorial feel to your images.
I’ll keep an eye out for the best light and little pockets of the venue as the day unfolds, so your photographs feel varied, natural and unmistakably yours.
Can we have a church ceremony if we marry at the old vicarage?
If you’d like to include a traditional or religious element in your wedding, there is a church within walking distance. The venue itself has a lovely connection to the local church, having originally been the vicarage to the neighbouring Holy Trinity Church.
What happens if it rains on the wedding day?
It’s the UK, so we can never quite guarantee what the weather will do! But rain definitely doesn’t mean compromising on your photographs.
The dining space is a brilliant option for photos when the weather isn’t on our side, with beautiful natural light and plenty of character. If you’re after something a little more editorial, the bar gives us a completely different look, especially for evening portraits and flash photography.
And if you still want some fresh air without getting completely soaked, the pergola outside gives us a sheltered spot for photographs while keeping that outdoor feel.
I’ll always adapt to whatever the day throws at us, so you can enjoy your wedding without worrying about the forecast.
Can we have photographs around the gardens without being away from our guests for ages?
Absolutely! I keep couple portraits relaxed and efficient, so you’re never away from your guests for ages. We’ll make the most of the gardens while naturally moving around, capturing a beautiful portraits with the many different backdrops at The Old Vicarage before getting you back to the celebrations.
We're really awkward in front of the camera. Can you help?
Absolutely! Most couples tell me this, and honestly, you don’t need to know what to do. I’ll give you gentle prompts and little things to focus on so it feels natural rather than posed. I’m there to capture the laughs, the in-between moments and the way you naturally are together, not force you into awkward poses.
